Thai Airways cancels Bangkok flood cargo embargo after military ground-handling support
The Loadstar’s Alexander Whiteman (1 Oct) reports Thai Airways retracted a planned six-day suspension of inbound, outbound and transshipment cargo at its Suvarnabhumi TG Cargo Terminal after the Thai government deployed about 130 military personnel (with more planned) to support ground handling amid Bangkok flooding labour shortages; Airports of Thailand also provided extra covered space to clear backlog. Rotate data cited week-on-week exports to North America down about 65% during the disruption window.

China–US “30-for-30” tariff cuts too late to lift weakening transpacific rates
The Loadstar’s Alison Koo (29 Sep) reports China and the US agreed mutual tariff cuts on about $30bn of goods (1,696 product lines, over 90% to MFN rates) after domestic legal steps; she notes SCFI Shanghai–USWC/USEC dipped about 1% to $7,463 / $10,497 per 40ft, Linerlytica saying the cuts come too late for the ending peak as Golden Week starts 1 Oct, and Maersk withdrawing its Transpacific Express Asia–USWC extra loader (~4,000 TEU/week) next month.

US–China truce extended on television — on paper, port-fee pause still ends 9 Nov
The Loadstar’s Adam Clermont (29 Sep) follows up on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s 23 Sep Fox News remark that the US–China Busan trade truce — including ship port-fee suspension — would run to 10 January 2027: after checking the paper trail, he reports the USTR suspension of port fees on Chinese-built and Chinese-operated ships still shows an end date of 9 November on the published documents, leaving a TV extension versus written schedule gap for shippers to watch.
-
Asian box port congestion could take 7–10 months to unwind
Splash247’s Sam Chambers reports Sea-Intelligence putting 8.5% of the global containership fleet (~3m TEU) absorbed by delays, with recovery after pandemic/Red Sea precedents implying seven to ten months to unwind to mid-2025 lows — likely only partially cleared before Chinese New Year 2027. Intra-Asia rates are at records (Drewry Shanghai–Laem Chabang +22% to $1,609/FEU); Xeneta’s Peter Sand says Asia–US rates remain near pandemic-era highs for 2027 tenders.
